A car spot starting from €39 and a motorcycle from €29, the price for a sleeper cabin + a car spot can be as inexpensive as €88 (cabin €49 and car €39).

Tips for car-carrier train passengers

Read this advice before boarding a car-carrier train.

  • Check the vehicle size from the registration document when booking a CarTrain journey.
  • Book the journey well in advance. You can find the exact time for loading the car in your ticket.
  • We want to make sure you are safe – please load and unload your car alone. Meanwhile your travel companions can have a cup of coffee at the station.
  • As a rule, you will load and unload your own car by yourself. There’s no need to be nervous about the loading or unloading – we will help you.
  • When you are moving around in the car-carrier wagon after loading your car, remember to be careful and pay attention to vehicles boarding the wagon.
  • For safety reasons, your vehicle may not be left idling in a car-carrier wagon during loading or unloading.
  • If VR loads your car, please bring your car to the loading point 30 minutes before the loading time. Please note that you cannot change the car loader afterward.
  • Print out your ticket and attach it to the keys. You can also write the ticket information on a paper (name, phone number, departure date, train, departure station, destination station, car make and model, and registration number).
  • Please note! Cars are loaded onto the car-carrier at the Pasila car-carrier station, while passengers board at the adjoining Pasila railway station.
  • The train P 267, which operates during peak seasons, will always leave from the Helsinki Central railway station.

  • Choose a sleeping cabin that suits your needs. We can customise a CarTrain package for you.
  • Pack a separate overnight bag with things you might need on the train trip. Remember to remove cold- or heat-sensitive items from the car. Other items can be left in the car.
  • You don’t have to worry about eating during the trip – our restaurant car stays open long into the night and opens early in the morning.
  • In night trains and car-carriers, pets travel with their owners in pet compartments or in the pet section of a regular passenger car. Do not leave your pet in your car on a car-carrier. As the tap water on the train is not potable, please remember to bring some water for your pet.

Information about car-carrier tickets (tickets purchased since 10 November 2021)

  • The vehicle spot includes the direct transport of the vehicle on the night train. You can buy a vehicle spot as an additional service for a sleeper cabin or seat.
  • The prices of vehicle spots depend on the size of the vehicle, the seasons, the time of the trip and the time of the booking, and are not linked to the prices of the sleeper cabins or seats. You can find the exact price for the chosen route through the trip search function.

  • You can change the departure date and time of the vehicle spot when changing the departure date and time for the whole journey by calling customer support 0100 3232 (0,06 €/min 0,06 €/min + lnc/mcc, Mon-Fri 5 am – 10 pm and Sat-Sun 7 am - 10 pm), but not later than 72 hours before the train's scheduled departure. Note that the route or direction of travel cannot be changed.
  • Changes are subject to a charge of €5 per change. Changes made via VR's customer care are further subject to a service charge of €1. If you change your ticket to a more expensive train service, you need to pay the difference when you make the change. The difference is not refunded as a monetary or price refund when changing to a less expensive train service.
  • It is possible to change or update the driver's name, contact person's name, telephone number and vehicle information (model, make, registration number), but not later than 72 hours before the scheduled departure time of the train. If the car to be loaded is changed before the journey, please contact our customer support 0100 3232 (cost 0,06 €/min + lnc/mcc) .
  • The length and height of the vehicle spot cannot be changed. If this information is changed, the vehicle spot must be cancelled and a new spot must be booked with the correct dimensions.
  • The vehicle can be cancelled but no later than 72 hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
  • You will be refunded the paid vehicle spot if you have purchased the vehicle's cancellation insurance cover and the cancellation takes place 72 hours before the scheduled departure of the train. The vehicle cancellation insurance fee will not be refunded.
  • The vehicle can be cancelled separately from the sleeper cabin or seating tickets, which means you can cancel just the vehicle seat and still take a trip in the sleeper cabin or seating area.
  • If you have purchased the vehicle's cancellation insurance, you can cancel the vehicle spot by logging in to the vr.fi website or in the VR Matkalla app.
  • If you did not buy the tickets while logged in and did not buy the vehicle's cancellation insurance, please contact our customer support 0100 3232 (0,06 €/min 0,06 €/min + lnc/mcc, Mon-Fri 5 am – 10 pm and Sat-Sun 7 am - 10 pm)regarding the cancellation no later than 72 hours before the scheduled departure of the train or cancel your trip with this form.
  • If you have not purchased the vehicle's cancellation insurance, the price for the vehicle spot cannot be refunded.
  • If the car to be loaded is changed before the journey, please contact our customer support 0100 3232 (cost 0,06 €/min + lnc/mcc).

Sales locations:

You will receive a ticket for the car-carrier by email as a PDF ticket. Tickets purchased through the Customer Service are delivered to you either as PDF tickets by email or as printed tickets from the service points at stations. The car-carrier ticket is valid for the service on the train and date stated on the ticket. The car space is included in the ticket, a separate voucher for the car is not needed. If you have bought your ticket while logged in and before 10 November 2021, you can find your ticket by logging in to our old site.

More about CarTrain packages

CarTrain packages include a transfer-free night train journey for 1–6 passengers and a car. The CarTrain package is cheaper than purchasing seats separately. The CarTrain package prices depend on the time of travel and compartment selection.

CarTrain package changes

  • You can change your CarTrain package at the service station ticket office or by calling
    customer support, tel. 0100 3232 (cost 0,06 €/min + lnc/mcc).
  • You can make changes to the car-carrier journey up to 7 days before the departure.
  • A service fee of EUR 1, in addition to other possible expenses, is charged for changes made at the service points at stations.
  • The change fee is 10% of the ticket price. If you change your ticket to a more expensive train service, you need to pay the difference when you make the change. The difference is not refunded as a monetary or price refund when changing to a less expensive train service.

CarTrain package cancellation

  • You can cancel the car-carrier journey up to 7 days before the departure.
  • You can cancel your CarTrain package with this form, at the service points at stations or by calling
    customer support, tel. 0100 3232 (cost 0,06 €/min + lnc/mcc).
  • The cancellation fee is 10% of the ticket price.

Please note: If you bought your ticket through a retailer, please contact them directly if you want to make any changes or cancel the ticket.

If the car to be loaded is changed before the journey, please contact our customer service, tel. 0600 41 900 (2 € / answered call + lnc/mcc).
