Record-breaking number of new developments on the tracks!
Pendolino Plus trains, new night train cars and the new Sm7 commuter trains - we will soon see a historically large number of new fleet on the tracks of Finland.
The new fleet will be the first to feature the new exterior design of our trains in Finland, which has been in use in VR Snabbtåg traffic between Stockholm and Gothenburg in Sweden since August 2024. With a new look, our trains are like an easy-to-approach, relaxed and guiding travel companion, on which everyone is welcome to travel.
New and neat in long-distance traffic
Pendolino Plus
Pendolino Plus trains will start travelling between Helsinki and Turku in November and between Helsinki and Oulu in December, 2025.

Travel in style in Ekstra Plus class
Experience the best way to travelThe Ekstra Plus class of Pendolino Plus trains has the ideal setting for a particularly comfortable journey. You can enjoy spacious seating, pre-order meals, there is a tea/coffee station and the area is licensed for the sale of alcohol.
Welcome, new commuter trains!
Newcomers to commuter trafficWe will procure 20 new commuter trains with premium travel comfort and energy efficiency. The new commuter trains will be in traffic from 2026 on commuter traffic routes D, R, T, Z and M.
Renewed & refreshed Eko Class
Onwards with styleDark green seats, cognac-coloured details, and a fresh new look. Some of the Eko Class carriages have already undergone the transformation, and the rest will follow one by one. Have you had a chance to travel in the renewed Eko Class yet?

For a few years now, we have been involving the VR Matkalla developer community, consisting of passengers and personnel, in product and service development. We've made several concrete improvements and renewals to our services and travel experience with feedback received through the community.

What a fresh look!
Our visual appearance has undergone a slight renewal, and you may already have seen new colours, clearer visual language and new-looking communication on social media or TV, for example. The new look is gradually being introduced to all our meeting points, whether on the side of the train, on your ticket, in our app, at the station or here at vr.fi.
