All long-distance and commuter traffic day trains will be cancelled on 2 Feb due to strike

We are cancelling all long-distance day trains as well as commuter trains on Friday 2 Feb from 12 midnight to 11:59 p.m. due to the political strike. The strike will not affect night trains, which will run normally.

The planned strike will start on Friday 2 February 2024 at 00.01 and continue until 23.59 on the same day. All night trains will run normally despite the strike. Also some commuter trains run early in the morning, please see the list at the end of the page.

Despite the demonstration, there will be normal services on Thursday 1 February and Saturday 3 February. However, individual changes are possible. For the best information on exceptions, please visit vr.fi's page.

You can change your ticket to another date or VR will automatically replace tickets purchased for the day of the strike

Customers can change their long-distance single ticket to another date without paying a change fee of €5 from today, 26 January, until Friday morning, 2 February at 9 am. The change can be made as a self-service in the VR Matkalla app, by logging in to vr.fi or via customer service by calling 0100 3232. We strongly recommend using self-service channels. Ticket changes must be made before the scheduled departure time. The normal cost for changing a ticket is € 5.

VR will automatically refund the price of single tickets for long-distance and commuter train tickets purchased during the strike to its customers within about a week. VR will also refund seat reservations for multi-tickets to customers and extend the validity period of season tickets and multi-tickets for long-distance and commuter trains by one day. These will not require any action from the users of the tickets.

If the train tickets have been purchased as paper tickets without logging in from a ticket vending machine or R-kioski, for example, the compensation cannot be paid automatically. In these cases, you can apply for a refund through the compensation form, Opens in a new tab.
