Storm Ulla has caused disruptions to train services in eastern and central Finland on Fri 4 July

Storm winds have knocked trees onto the tracks and caused damage to the electricity network, which the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency is currently repairing. The effects of the storm may affect train services throughout the country.

The effects of the exceptional situation may be felt in passenger traffic until the weekend. We ask passengers to be prepared for delays and substituting bus services. You can follow your train's situation in the On Track section as well as in the VR Matkalla app.

We recommend switching on the push-notifications from your app settings to receive information about your train as notifications on your mobile phone.

If your train is delayed for at least 60 minutes and you have not yet started your journey:

  • You can cancel your ticket and receive a refund. You can change your itinerary (departure date and time) at no extra cost. If you make the change through the self-service channel, you will need to pay the ticket change fee as well as any possible fare difference for a more expensive ticket. We will reimburse you for the costs incurred from the ticket change afterwards.
  • You can continue or reroute your train trip to reach your destination as soon as possible with similar conditions of carriage.

You can apply for compensation for your trip by filling out the compensation form., Opens in a new tab

If your train was delayed for at least 60 minutes and you have already started your journey but want to interrupt it:

  • You can change the timetable for your remaining trip at no extra cost to get to your destination as quickly as possible. The same travel terms and conditions will apply to the new journey as to the original journey.
  • You can postpone your journey at no additional cost. The same travel terms and conditions will apply to the new journey as to the original journey.
  • You can cancel your trip and we will refund you for the remaining journey. If your journey has ended but it was no use to you because of your original plans, we will refund you for the full price of your purchased ticket and the return journey to your departure point.

We recommend making the change through our self-service channels, either on vr.fi or in the VR Matkalla app. In that case, you will first need to pay the ticket change fee yourself, as well as any possible fare difference for a more expensive ticket. We will reimburse you afterwards for the costs incurred from the ticket change. You can claim the costs back by filling out our compensation form. , Opens in a new tab
