Wearing a face mask

We are reinstating the face mask requirement on all VR's long-distance and commuter trains.

Kasvomaskin käyttö

VR will move from the recommended use of face masks to the required use of face masks on all its trains. The aim of the change is to make travel safer and help passengers be even more conscientious about wearing face masks. The mask requirement will be introduced on all VR's long-distance and commuter trains (D, G, M, R, T and Z) and Allegro as of today.

VR has decided to reinstate the mask requirement as of Friday, 17 December 2021. We have strongly recommended the use of face masks on our trains since autumn 2020 and the mask requirement was previously in force from March to October 2021. The train personnel have been wearing masks on all trains since autumn 2020.

Mask requirement part of travel terms and conditions once again

VR will add a mask requirement to the travel terms and conditions of train tickets as of 17 December 2021. We are aware that some customers may be unable to wear a face mask for health-related reasons. VR welcomes these customers on our trains. We will not demand proof of any health issues; telling the personnel that you cannot wear a mask due to a health-related reason is enough. The mask requirement does not apply to children under the age of 12. Wearing a face mask is not required in a cabin or sleeper cabin reserved for your group. However, a face mask is required when boarding the train and moving around inside the train.
