Tickets for Christmas and winter season for sale on Tue 25 Aug

On Tuesday 25 August at 10 am, we will publish the tickets for day trains on sale for the time period of 13 Dec 2026 until 14 Feb 2027.

The new period includes the Christmas holiday season. Now is a great time to book your Christmas travel in advance and get your tickets at a good price.

The new timetable period brings changes to train schedules on several routes:

  • Helsinki–Oulu–Helsinki: New daily fast InterCity services. There will also be more stops in Lapua, Kauhava and Jakobstad.
  • Helsinki–Tampere: New evening services.
  • Helsinki–Vaasa: Services will focus more on connections via Seinäjoki. Evening services to Vaasa will be increased, and train 48 from Vaasa to Helsinki will run daily.
  • Helsinki–Joensuu:
More services will be added. Some services that currently operate only on weekdays or weekends will become daily. This will also improve connections towards the main line.
  • Helsinki–Jyväskylä: Train 149 will depart from Helsinki one hour later than it currently does.
  • Oulu–Helsinki: From 13 December 2026, the departure time of the Pendolino Plus service from Oulu will move from 4.25 am to 6.25 am. The later departure time makes it possible to offer Pendolino Plus services on a morning train that better suits travellers’ schedules. The early-morning service from Oulu will continue to operate, but with InterCity carriages.

Green is now VR’s green. VR’s distinctive green color has been registered as a color trademark in Finland for passenger rail services. The registration is a significant recognition of long-term brand-building efforts: Finns associate the color green exceptionally strongly with VR, and now one of the company’s most recognizable brand assets has also received official protection.

The opening of sales for car spaces on trains to and from Kemijärvi was delayed because the weight limits of the car-carrier wagons used on the route required changes to our sales channels. The necessary updates have now been completed, and we can now open bookings for car spaces.
