We are increasing the prices of commuter train tickets

We are increasing the prices of single, serial and multi-tickets in commuter traffic (lines D, G, H, M, O, R, T and Z) as of 3 June. The price of an adult single ticket will increase by an average of 60 cents. The price increases do not apply to the routes between Helsinki and Hyvinkää and Helsinki and Järvenpää, and student, pensioner and other discounts remain unchanged.

The price increases will take effect on Monday 3 June 2024 at 9 a.m., and they are due to increased transport production costs.

"For example, the price of electricity used by trains has increased by around 30 per cent since 2019. Season ticket prices for local transport have not been increased since 2015. Our goal is to increase the number of passengers in commuter traffic and keep the price changes moderate. Choosing a commuter train is always a climate-friendly action and the train will continue to be a fast, precise and inexpensive way of travelling compared to private cars," says Anu Punola, our Director of Commuter Services.

The price of an adult single ticket will increase by an average of 60 cents. The prices of commuter traffic tickets vary depending on the route, and the changes coming into effect in June will also vary accordingly. The ticket price will always be the same for the same route, regardless of the time of buying the ticket or the time of travel.

Ticket prices remain unchanged on the two major commuter traffic routes, Hyvinkää–Helsinki and Järvenpää–Helsinki.

For example, on the route between Helsinki and Riihimäki, the price of a single ticket in commuter traffic is increaing from EUR 11.10 to EUR 11.50, on the route between Helsinki and Lahti the price of a single ticket in commuter traffic is increasing from EUR 12.70 to EUR 13.90 and on the route between Riihimäki and Lahti the price of a single ticket in commuter traffic is increasing from EUR 6.60 to EUR 6.90. The discount on commuter train tickets for children, students, pensioners, conscripts and persons undergoing non-military service remains unchanged. These passenger groups will still be entitled to a 50% discount on single tickets on VR's commuter trains.
