A political strike stops train services on Monday 12 February

A political strike will stop train services on Monday 12.2. All long-distance, night and commuter trains will be cancelled during the strike. Before the strike on Sunday 11 February, services will run as normal, including night trains departing on Sunday. If you wish, you can change your long-distance single ticket to another date without paying a 5 € change fee. If the customer does not change the date of the ticket, VR will automatically refund the money for the train tickets purchased during the strike.

The planned strike will start on Monday 12 February 2024 at 00.01 and will last until 23.59 on the same day. On Tuesday 13 February, traffic will run as normal. However, individual changes are possible. For the best information on exceptions, please visit the vr.fi  page.

You can change your ticket to another date or VR will automatically replace tickets purchased during the strike

Customers can change their long-distance single ticket to another date without paying a 5 € change fee from today until Tuesday 13 February at 9 am. Please note that the change must be made before the scheduled departure time.

You can make the change yourself using the VR Matkalla app, by logging in to vr.fi or via customer service by calling 0100 3232. We recommend that our customers use the app or vr.fi to change their tickets. Ticket changes must be made before the scheduled departure time. The normal cost for changing a ticket is 5 €.

VR will automatically refund the price of long-distance and commuter train single tickets purchased during the strike to its customers within approximately one week. VR will also refund seat reservations for multi-tickets to customers and extend the validity of season tickets and multi-tickets for long-distance and commuter services by the day of the strike. These do not require any action on the part of ticket holders. It is not possible to make an automatic refund for tickets purchased for night trains. For tickets purchased on night trains, you can apply for a refund through the compensation form.

If you have bought paper tickets without logging in, for example at a ticket machine or R-kiosk, it is not possible to make a refund automatically. In these cases, you can apply for a refund through the compensation form.

Updated on 9 February: added information regarding night train compensation and Tuesday 13.2. service.
