All InterCity trains and Pendolino trains have compartments. You can choose between a 2–6-person compartment or a family compartment for yourself or your group.

2–4-person compartment in an Intercity train

You can book a 2–4 person compartment for yourself or for yourself and a travel companion.

6-person compartment in a Pendolino train

You can book a 6-person cabin for yourself or your travel group. 

  • A compartment in Ekstra Class is suitable for meetings or travelling with a group
  • Charge your devices during the journey
  • The price of the ticket includes coffee, tea and water from the self-service station
  • Plenty of table space
  • Free wi-fi

Family cabin

Are you travelling with your family? Book a family cabin with room to play, read and enjoy snacks together as a family. The cabin has four seats and two stools for children.

Having your own compartment brings more privacy and safety to travelling

Book a private compartment through vr.fi, in the VR Matkalla mobile app or from a ticket vending machine at the station

  • A compartment is a peaceful place to work or relax.
  • Compartments have tables and power sockets for charging electronic devices.
  • You can book the compartment when purchasing a ticket.
  • All available compartments will be shown when selecting your seat.
  • If you belong to a discount group you get the normal discount on the ticket when travelling in a compartment.
  • The price depends on the selected route, date and time, number of passengers and how close to the departure you purchase the ticket.
  • If you need to change the date or time of your journey, it is easy to do so by calling our customer service on 0100 3232 (cost 0,06 €/min + lnc/mcc). A change fee of EUR 5 plus any price difference for a new train ticket will be charged.
  • You can buy cancellation insurance for a ticket with a cabin from the vr.fi website and from the VR Matkalla app. Cancellation insurance always concerns the entire cabin; it does not cover the cancellation of individual seats of the cabin.

Please note! Until further notice, we do not sell individual compartment seats on trains.

You can reserve an empty seat next to you when choosing your seat through the vr.fi website or the VR Matkalla mobile app, by calling our customer service on +358 (0)600 41 900 (EUR 1.99 per answered call + local network charge) or by visiting our service point.

  • An empty seat next to you is an inexpensive way to add space and travel comfort to your journey.
  • You can reserve an empty seat next to you when choosing your seat through the vr.fi website or in the VR Matkalla mobile app.
  • If you are our corporate customer, you can buy an empty seat through our old website by choosing “Empty seat next to me” as the other ticket type in addition to your own ticket type.
  • You can add an empty seat next to you when you purchase a long-distance single ticket in Eko or Ekstra Class, upstairs of the restaurant car or in a coach for pets.

The same cancellation terms and conditions apply to the empty seat as to the actual train ticket.
