Changes in the Ekstra Class from 26 October onwards

We are responding to your wishes about more spacious and even safer train travelling. Starting on Monday, 26 October, an Ekstra Class ticket entitles you to a face mask and an empty seat next to you.

The train conductor will provide each person travelling in Ekstra Class with a face mask. You can also wear your own mask.

We will also decrease the number of Ekstra Class seats by half and ensure that our customers have more space by not selling tickets for the aisle seats. This gives you more space as the seat next to you is always empty. If you are in the same car as your travel companion, you can move from your row to theirs so that you sit next to each other.

Based on a recent customer survey*, almost half of our customers (48%) feel that the mandatory use of face masks creates a sense of security. Over half of respondents (54%) are also concerned about other passengers’ use of protective equipment.

VR’s own customer service and train personnel wear face masks during their shifts. We recommend that you also wear a face mask in the Eko Class of long-distance traffic and in the commuter traffic.

*VR's customer survey, approx. 1800 participants. The survey was conducted online September 24-28, 2020.
