About half of long-distance trains will run on Wednesday 14 February - all night trains will run

Tomorrow, about half of Wednesday's normal traffic will run and night trains and railbuses will run as normal. Some trains will be cancelled and some will be replaced by buses. You can check the status of your train on the Train traffic at the moment page.

VR cancelled long-distance trains throughout Finland on Tuesday evening for safety reasons. The reason for this was the discovery of wheel damage on the locomotives and wagons. The Finnish Transport Agency inspected more than 700 km of track, and the spot where the notches in the wheels of the trains have been located between Lahti and Kouvola on the Mankala-Niinimäki section. The track damage has now been repaired and the line is safe to drive on.

The track damage has caused extensive damage to VR's train fleet. More than 70% of VR's fleet has been running on the damaged track. Traffic will be resumed as soon as the inspections of the fleet have been completed and we are sure that each locomotive and wagon is fit for operation. Safety is of primary importance to us.

Tomorrow, about half of Wednesday's normal traffic will run, and night trains and railbuses will run as normal. Some trains will be cancelled and some will be replaced by buses. Some commuter trains will also be cancelled, as the track damage was localised to the commuter train area. You can check the status of your own train on the , which will direct you to the next available departures or to buses that accept the original ticket.

However, if you want to change your journey to a different time, you can change your long-distance single ticket to another time if you wish, without paying a change fee of 5 €, at the latest before the original departure time of the train. If you wish to cancel your journey, you can request a refund of the unused ticket price using the compensation form.

We will extend the validity of season tickets for long-distance travel and multi-tickets by one day. These do not require any action on the part of ticket holders.

Refund policy for trains cancelled on 13 February

In this exceptional situation, where we had to close all services very quickly for safety reasons, you can claim compensation from VR for the difference if you change your ticket to 13 February and the new journey is more expensive.
