Discounts on tickets

Passengers under 18 years of age are always eligible for a 40% discount on domestic long distance trains. Children under 4 years old travel for free. On VR's commuter trains, children under 7 years old travel for free and children aged between 7 and 17 with a 50% discount.

Children under 12 travel free of charge with an adult who holds an Interrail train ticket. Children under 11 travel free of charge when accompanied by an adult in a sleeper car without a designated berth. No discounts are applicable to night train cabins.

Passengers travelling with children’s tickets must hold official proof of identity to verify their eligibility for the discount when tickets are inspected.

In long-distance traffic, students are eligible for a 30% discount on:

• single ticket for long-distance traffic
  
• multi-tickets
  

In VR’s commuter traffic, students are eligible for a 50% discount on single tickets and multi-tickets. No discounts are applicable to night train cabins.

You are required to present the documentation that qualifies you for a discount when tickets are inspected on the train.

In long-distance traffic, you are eligible for a 20% pensioner discount on single ticket for long-distance traffic and multi-tickets. In VR’s commuter traffic, you are eligible for a 50% discount on single tickets and multi-tickets. No discounts are applicable to night train cabins.

You are required to present the documentation that qualifies you for a discount when tickets are inspected on the train.

You can travel free of charge in Eko Class in long-distance traffic as well as in VR's commuter traffic, provided that you are wearing a Finnish Defence Forces military uniform and carrying a conscript card bearing the VR logo.

Otherwise, you are eligible for a 30% discount on single ticket for long-distance traffic and a 50% discount on single tickets for VR’s commuter traffic. No discounts are applicable to night train cabins.

Persons undergoing non-military service travelling while carrying out their service and on their free time

You can travel free of charge in long-distance traffic using a train ticket purchased by your place of service. Otherwise, you are eligible for a 30% discount on single ticket for long-distance traffic. No discounts are applicable to night train cabins.

You get a 50% discount on single tickets for VR’s commuter traffic.
