We are revising the prices of single and multi-tickets in commuter traffic

We are revising the prices of single and multi-tickets in commuter traffic (lines D, G, M, O, R, T and Z) as of 28 August. The price of a single ticket increases by an average of EUR 0.50. Season ticket prices will remain unchanged and there will be no changes to single and multi-ticket prices on three core routes of commuter traffic.

The price adjustments coming into effect at 9 a.m. on Monday, 28 August 2023, are based on general changes in the cost level.

“As our operating environment is affected by many changes, such as inflation and rising energy prices, we need to revise our commuter traffic prices. Our goal is to increase the number of passengers in commuter traffic and keep the price changes moderate. Commuter trains are an environmentally friendly choice and will continue to be an inexpensive and fast way to travel,” says Anu Punola, Director of Commuter Services at VR.

The prices of single and multi-tickets in commuter traffic will increase by 4.8% on average, in which case the average change in the price of a single ticket is EUR 0.50. For example, on the Helsinki–Riihimäki route, the price of a single ticket will increase from EUR 10.80 to EUR 11.10, and on the Helsinki–Lahti route, the price of a single ticket will increase from EUR 11.70 to EUR 12.70.

The ticket prices of three major commuter traffic routes, Hyvinkää–Helsinki, Järvenpää–Helsinki and Mäntsälä–Helsinki, will remain unchanged. The prices of season tickets will remain unchanged on all commuter traffic routes.

The prices of commuter traffic tickets vary depending on the route, and the changes coming into effect in August will also vary accordingly. The price adjustments are proportional to the price of petrol on the route in question and to the ticket prices of bus companies and long-distance trains.

The 50% discount on commuter train tickets for children, students, pensioners, conscripts and persons undergoing non-military service remains unchanged.
