Online Shop terms and conditions
These online shop terms and conditions apply to purchases made from VR Online Shop and VR Mobile. The Finnish law and VR’s valid conditions of carriage and ticket terms and conditions shall apply to transactions conducted through VR Online Shop and VR Mobile. Once you have paid for your purchases, the transaction will be binding and cannot be cancelled.
Correctness of the information
The ticket purchaser is responsible for providing correct information for the purchase and delivery of the train tickets. VR is not responsible for problems in sending the confirmation or delivery of tickets resulting from erroneous information or any damage incurred.
Changing and cancellation of tickets
The tickets you have purchased may be changed or cancelled on certain terms. The terms and conditions of changes and cancellations are ticket specific. Individual tickets to long-distance trains, CarTrain packages, journeys in sleeping berths or compartments and tickets for services between Finland and Russia may be changed or cancelled at station ticket offices, by contacting VR Customer Care during their opening hours or by using this online form. The selected destination or itinerary may not be changed.
Individual long-distance tickets
The departure date or time of an individual ticket to a long-distance train may be changed. A fee is charged for this. If a ticket is exchanged for a more expensive train service, the difference in prices is charged. The difference is not refunded when exchanging for a less expensive departure.
Cancellation insurance is available for individual tickets to long-distance trains. The cancellation insurance entitles you to cancel a ticket. For a refund of the ticket price, contact a station ticket office or VR Customer Care.
You can make changes in or cancel CarTrain packages by contacting a station ticket office or VR Customer Care up till seven days before the journey. A fee is charged for changes and cancellations.
Multi-tickets for long-distance traffic and commuter train service area
Multi-tickets cannot be changed or cancelled.
Season tickets for long-distance trains and commuter train service area
Season tickets cannot be changed or cancelled.
Tickets for services between Finland and Russia
Tickets for services between Finland and Russia may be changed or cancelled up till six hours before the departure time marked on the ticket. A fee is charged for changes and cancellations.
Special offer tickets
Special offer tickets may not be changed or cancelled. The terms and conditions of special offer tickets applicable to customers registered with Veturi customer programme vary according to each individual offer.
Student and pensioner discounts
Students receive a discount on certain train tickets. As tickets are inspected on the train, students must prove their entitlement to a discount ticket by showing a valid student card approved by VR or a temporary certificate issued by an educational institution (which shows the date of issue; accepted for three months from the date of issue).
Passengers entitled to a pensioner discount must present a VR E-card, a Kela card with photo and the text "eläkkeensaaja", a basic pension card without a photo, or an employment pension card or pension decision issued by an employee pension company. An identity card shall always be produced with basic pension and employment pension cards and pension decisions.
If the passenger does not have a card or temporary certificate entitling them to a discount, the conductor will charge the passenger the price of an adult ticket as bought on the train.
