Children on night trains

Children aged 10 and younger travel free of charge on night trains with a parent in the same sleeping compartment if a berth is not booked for the child. Please note the following matters before departure:

• Tell the ticket office clerk that a child will be travelling when purchasing tickets so that a free of charge train ticket may be printed.
• Train tickets entitling a child to travel free of charge are available at ticket offices and by contacting VR Customer Care by phone.
• If you buy CarTrain packages or your night train tickets from VR Online Shop you may book free of charge tickets for children to the same sleeping compartment at the abovementioned sales points.
• Children under the age of 6 do not need train tickets.

If you have purchased night train tickets or CarTrain packages after 14 September and the tickets include a trip for a child aged 6-10 you will be refunded the part of the child's trip with travel vouchers the next time you buy tickets.

Night train onboard services

VR's modern double-deck sleeping-cars are designed to accommodate the needs of various types of passengers. The cars have a wide range of services for different types of passengers. The double-deck sleeping-car compartments are available in night trains operated between Helsinki and Kemijärvi.

Also single deck blue night trains are operated to destinations in Lapland. The trains run from the south to Kolari and Rovaniemi.

Restaurant services

Restaurant services are an important part of an enjoyable journey. All night trains have a restaurant car Raileri which offers a culinary journey into the 1970s. The restaurant car serves alcoholic beverages 09.00-01.30. The restaurant car is closed 02.00-04.00.
