Services for the disabled on different types of train
InterCity and InterCity2 trains
All InterCity and InterCity2 trains have a double deck service car which has services for the disabled on the lower deck. The car floor is on the same level as the elevated station platforms. When pressing the disabled person button by the entry/exit door, a ramp is placed between the car and the platform to permit a wheelchair passenger access to/ exit from the car, without assistance. Most station platforms have already been elevated.
In addition, the InterCity trains are equipped with
- two wheelchair spaces close by the vestibule and a wider corridor to access the passenger compartments
- a WC for disabled persons
- a plug contact by the spaces and seats for the disabled.

Pendolino trains
The Pendolino trains supply high-standard services for physically impaired passengers. A hydraulic lift operated by the train conductor, ensures easy access to the train.
The following services for the disabled are provided in Pendolino trains:
- two wheelchair spaces (one on either side of the corridor)
- plug contact by the wheelchair spaces for, e.g. charging of wheelchair batteries
- WC for the disabled (wider door, support handles, call buttons) by the wheelchair spaces
- regular seat equipment: reading light, table, radio with earphones, PC plug, unobstructed visibility to info monitors
- call button (to train crew); on request, at seat service ensured.

- WC for the disabled (wider door, support handles, call buttons)

At Nokia and Karkku there are no services for the disabled during summer time (due to the low platforms of the stations) for trains H962 (Mon-Fri), H 967 (Mon-Thu), H970 (Mon-Thu) and H975 (Mon-Thu, Sun) . Check train timetables in VR Journey Search. Read more on low-floor trains on e.g. the Information on trains pages.

Also railcars are equipped with hydraulic lifts operated by the conductor. Passengers using a wheelchair have a space at one end of the railcar and the washroom can accomodate disabled passengers.

Night trains
It is now considerably easier for persons with reduced mobility to travel on night trains thanks to the new sleeping-cars. The design of the new cars takes into consideration disabled passengers and organisations representing the disabled were able to influence the design.

Opening and closing entrance doors of the cars
There are slight differences between the door-operating buttons on different trains. When the buttons are on top of each other, the uppermost one is the opening button. When the buttons are side by side, the opening button is the one nearest to the door.
How to avoid unnecessary movements when on board the train
Make sure that you reserve your seats at the end of the car near the toilets. Note, however, that the seats at the end of the carriage are sliding seats with non-reclining backs.
Call button
Disabled compartments on double-deck sleeping cars and wheelchair spaces on Pendolinos have call buttons allowing you to contact train staff. If you feel that you may need assistance during the journey make sure to reserve a seat near the call button.
