Express trains - the blue cars

The express trains are conventional blue-car trains travelling over long distances and between major population centres in south Finland. Together with the InterCity trains, they form VR's basic supply of train services.

In the planning and design of the express train services, the needs of different passenger categories were considered.

The Express train

The Express train

The needs of different passenger categories have been considered in the planning and design of the blue cars. The top speed of the express trains ranges from 140 to 160 km/h and the stopping distance from 50 to 100 km.

In the timetables, these trains are referred to as P trains.

Fares

The express train is the most inexpensive rail travel option, with an advance purchased train ticket as including seat booking. The prices of the journeys are less expensive than aboard Pendolino or InterCity trains but more expensive than aboard the regional trains that have no seat booking option.
