Exceptional arrangements as due to track work

In 2010 a number of track work projects are carried out on the network. Hence exceptional arrangements in the services have to be implemented, e.g. buses replacing rail services and cancellations of trains.

The replacement buses in which all valid VR tickets are accepted, leave at railway stations unless otherwise specified. The passengers are requested to purchase the tickets in advance. Buses only carry hand luggage. At railway stations there are signs indicating the replacement services departures. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by track work.

VR reserves all rights to modifications.

The Finnish Transport Agency is responsible for the track work projects.

Kouvola

Kouvola station area is undergoing renovations in 2009–2010.

The finishing work continues during autumn when the pedestrian underpass is renovated. The work is conducted in two phases half an hour at a time so that one half of the underpass remains open. In the first phase the underpass's stairs on the Koria (Helsinki) side are closed and only the stairs on the Utti (Lappeenranta/Joensuu) side are in use.

The platforms and the underpass have signs to guide passengers.
 
The underpass repair work will be completed by the end of October.

Seinäjoki-Vaasa

4 Oct 2010 - 30 Jun 2011

The 10.38 H 443 from Seinäjoki and the 12.22 H 446 from Vaasa are replaced by buses Monday through Thursday

Buses depart from Vaasa earlier than the trains they replace and arrive in Vaasa at a later time.

However, the services on 6 Dec 2010, 22 Dec 2010 - 9 Jan 2011, 21 Apr 2011, 25 Apr 2011 and 2 Jun 2011 are operated as rail services.

• Replacement transports depart from railway stations.

• All valid VR long-distance tickets are valid on replacement buses.

Helsinki-Oulu-Rovaniemi-Kemijärvi

Sat 11 Sep

Ten day trains (S 41, IC 43, S 45, IC 47,S 42, H 402, S 46, IC 48, IC 50, S 52) are replaced by buses between Seinäjoki and Kokkola. From some of the trains the connecting service south from Seinäjoki and north from Kokkola is only on the next scheduled rail service.

Saturdays 9 Oct and 23 Oct.

All day trains on Seinäjoki-Kokkola line are cancelled and most are replaced by buses. The connecting service south from Seinäjoki and north from Kokkola is only on the next scheduled rail service. Night trains run normally.

• The 15.43 IC 58 from Oulu to Helsinki is cancelled between Kokkola and Seinäjoki and it is not replaced by buses. There is, however, a connection to the train from Kokkola and intermediate stations by a 17.35 bus service.
• The 18.30 Pendolino S 59 from Helsinki to Oulu has a connection from Kokkola to Oulu on 27 Jun only at 01.52 and on 10 and 24 Oct only at 02.16.
• Replacement buses will depart from the railway stations. Timetables for the buses will differ from the rail timetables.

16 Aug - 11 Nov

Every day from Monday to Thursday seven day trains (S 41, IC 43, S 45, IC 50, S 52, IC 54 and S 56) are replaced by buses between Oulu and Vihanti.

• Replacement buses to south depart from Oulu earlier than the scheduled rail services. South from Vihanti trains continue according to the normal timetable.
• North from Vihanti buses run slower than the scheduled rail services.
• Due to the service alterations the connecting services from some trains and buses from Oulu are only on the next scheduled train or bus.

Parikkala-Joensuu

• Sat 25 Sep IC 1, IC 3, IC 5 and S 7 are cancelled on Kitee-Joensuu line, S 8, IC 10 and IC 12 on Joensuu-Kitee line and IC 11 on Kesälahti-Joensuu line.
• Sun 26 Sep IC 6 train is cancelled on Joensuu-Kesälahti line.
• Replacement bus transport is provided.

Joensuu-Lieksa

• Sat 11 Sep rail services H 761, H 763 and H 762 are replaced by buses on Joensuu-Uimaharju line.
• Sat 12 Sep H 761 train on Joensuu-Uimaharju line and H 760 train on Uimaharju-Joensuu line are cancelled.

Replacement bus transport is provided.
