Services for the disabled on different types of train

InterCity and InterCity2 trains

All InterCity and InterCity2 trains have a double deck service car which has services for the disabled on the lower deck. The car floor is on the same level as the elevated station platforms. When pressing the disabled person button by the entry/exit door, a ramp is placed between the car and the platform to permit a wheelchair passenger access to/ exit from the car, without assistance. Most station platforms have already been elevated.

In addition, the InterCity trains are equipped with

  • two wheelchair spaces close by the vestibule and a wider corridor to access the passenger compartments
  • a WC for disabled persons
  • a plug contact by the spaces and seats for the disabled.

Night trains

It is now considerably easier for persons with reduced mobility to travel on night trains thanks to the new sleeping-cars. The design of the new cars takes into consideration disabled passengers and organisations representing the disabled were able to influence the design.
