Services for passengers with pets

Most pets have no problem travelling by train. The pet's owner is best able to assess whether their pet can be transported in a train with other pets possibly in the same compartment. Please note when travelling with a pet:

• the pet shall be vaccinated and housetrained.
• Pet owners should bring a water bowl and fresh water for their pet.
• As the space reserved by pets is by default on the floor many pet owners also bring a mat or cover.

InterCity train pet spaces

In InterCity trains pets and their owners travel in a spacious open compartment, shown on the right side of the diagram.

• Seats marked in red are reserved for pets
• Seats in green are for owners and persons accompanying the pet owners.
• If other seats in the train are sold out the green seats are booked for other passengers.
• Seats of passengers travelling with a guide dog are located in the adjacent six person compartment.

In InterCity2 trains a 12 seat intermediate level compartment accessible from the lower deck of the double deck Edb coach is reserved for pets and their owners.

Pendolino pet spaces

Pendolino trains have six seats for pets and one seat for large dogs in coach no. six.

• The seats are marked in red in the coach diagram and the seat for the large dog in darker red.
• Seats marked in green next to pet seats are for owners and persons accompanying the pet owners.
• If other seats in the train are sold out the green seats are booked for other passengers.

Express and regional train pet spaces

It is possible to transport pets in day express trains and blue car regional trains which have

• 20 seats for passengers travelling with pets and four seats for large dogs.
• Pets can also travel on the floor in the conductor's compartment or in a crate. The owner shall take care of the pet during the journey.

In railcars seats are reserved at the end of the car for passengers travelling with pets.

Night train pet spaces

Pets can also be easily transported in night trains.

• Pets can be transported in the end compartment of a sleeping-car if the whole end compartment has been reserved. Pets are not allowed in other compartments.
• Pets can also be transported in night trains in the conductor's compartment on the floor or in a cage.
• Night train day cars have a compartment for passengers travelling with pets.

With pets on commuter trains

Travel in commuter train pet compartments without additional charge. Travel without additional charge with guide and assistance dogs in all compartments.

Russia

Cats and dogs can be transported by train to Russia. Transport of other animals is not allowed.

When travelling with a cat or dog make sure you learn about current customs and veterinary regulations. Information is available on the web sites of Finnish and Russian customs at www.tulli.fi and www.customs.ru.

Allegro

Allegro has designated seats for passengers travelling with pets. A €20 surcharge is added to a 2nd Class ticket for pet transport. A separate ticket is not required for the pet.

Passengers may transport at most:

• two dogs on a leash or
• two transport boxes or
• one dog on a leash and one transport box.

The maximum dimensions of the transport box are 60 x 45 x 25 cm. Several animals may be transported in one box.

Tolstoi

On Helsinki-Moscow line Tolstoi you can transports pets in sleeping cars as follows:

• In 1st class two person sleeping compartments
• In 2nd class four person sleeping compartments

Pets cannot be transported in Business class cars.

Please note:

• The passenger and pets shall purchase all travel and seat tickets of a compartment. Pets cannot be transported on single berths.
• A separate ticket is not required for the pet.
