Planning your CarTrain journey
VR's web pages provide useful information if you plan to transport your car by train to Lapland. On the Lapland pages you can find information on e.g.:
- Timetables. View car-carrier train timetables.
- Car-carrier fares. Check out the car-carrier train fare in the Online Shop. The fare depends on whether the intended travel date is in low season or high season. The price of the ticket also depends on whether you travel in a day or sleeping car or a double-deck sleeping-car or an older blue sleeping car.
Booking or buying a car-carrier space or package
- You can buy a car space or CarTrain package online. Read the instructions and go to VR Online Shop to buy a CarTrain journey.
- You can book a car space and CarTrain package at VR station booking offices, sales agents or by calling VR Customer Care, tel. 0600 41 902 (€1 per answered call + local network charge). A car space or CarTrain package must be paid within 24 hours of booking or the reservation is cancelled.
- When booking a car space or CarTrain package state the make, model and registration number of your car.
- You also need the car's dimensions which are easy to find on e.g. the registration book. It is important to say whether you car has a roof box or whether your car's height exceeds 1.65 m. A limited number of spaces are available for high vehicles and vehicles with roof boxes.
- If your car has a particularly heavy load check load limits when booking your ticket.
- Please make sure that you enter you car's information correctly. If the car does not fit into the reserved space VR cannot transport the car and is not responsible for costs arising from the cancellation.
