Pensioner discount and VR's pensioner card

Persons over the age of 65 and pensioners aged not more than 64 may travel with a pensioner ticket on the following terms:

Persons over the age of 65

• One of the following identity cards entitling to discount fares shall be produced onboard the train: identity card issued by the police, passport, driving license, Social Insurance Institution card with photo, debit card with photo or VR Pensioner card (VR E-card).
  

Pensioners aged not more than 64

• persons entitled to pension by virtue of the Social Insurance Institution or employment pension scheme in Finland receive the discount
• VR's E-card, Social Insurance Institution card with photo with the text "eläkkeensaaja", a basic pension card without a photo or a employment pension card shall be produced. An identity card shall always be produced with basic pension cards and employment pension cards.
• part-time or disability pensioners do not benefit from the discount

VR Pensioner card (VR E-card)

Max. 64 years old pensioners meeting the specified requirements are entitled to purchase a VR Pensioner card at the price of €9. The card consists of an identity part and a validity part. The card is valid until its holder's 65th birthday.

Purchasing of VR Pensioner card

The VR Pensioner card (VR E-card) is designed for max. 64 years old persons having been granted

• a rehabilitation support
  
• a farmer's pension or a decision on a pension given by the farmers' pension institution MELA
  
• an accident pension, a disability pension or an unemployment pension
  
• a retirement pension or a retirement pension/employment pension
  
• an individual early-retirement pension
  
• a decision on a pension of a private pension trust
  
• a special immigration support
  

by the Finnish Social Insurance Institution or by virtue of the Finnish employment pension scheme.

When purchasing a VR Pensioner card, the relevant decision on the pension and a passport photo for the card shall be produced. An identity card is required. When producing a decision on a temporary rehabilitation support, the VR Pensioner card may only correspondingly be in force until the date of expiry of the decision. The card entitling to discount fares shall be produced whenever requested during the journey.
