Families and children
Families travel inexpensively by train as one child aged
6-16 years travels free of charge with an adult. In other cases a 45-55% discount
is granted on Basic and Flexible tickets to children aged 6-16.
Families
Families travel inexpensively by train with a Family ticket. With a Family ticket one child aged 6-16 travels free of charge with an adult. In that case the adult must travel with a normal price ticket. Family tickets are not only available as Basic tickets but as of 3 June 2013 also as cheap Advance tickets that can be purchased from VR Online Shop 60-7 days before the trip.

| How to pay |
Online, ticket vending machines or onboard the train
to the conductor: the Family ticket is paid when booking.
Tickets bought at other purchasing locations: - If train tickets are booked 60-1 days before the journey they must be paid within 24 h. - If train tickets are booked less than 24 h before the departure they must be paid 30 minutes before departure at the latest. - If train tickets are booked less than 30 minutes before the departure they must be paid upon booking. If the reservation is not paid within the deadline the reservation is cancelled. | The family ticket is paid when booking. | |

- Select the number of adults and children in the passenger type menu.
- Select Basic
ticket price. The price includes the right to travel with a Family ticket
and the right of one child to travels free of charge with seat booking.
- Buy the tickets.
Children
- Children aged 6-16 years get a discount on Basic and Flexible tickets. The junior discount is granted also on 10 journey multi-tickets and season tickets. Check out the fares online.
- Children under the age of 6 travel free of charge without seat booking. If you want to book a seat for your child the child travels free of charge with a Family ticket or you can also get a regular junior train ticket.
- The child's age must be proven onboard the train when tickets are inspected.
