How to purchase long-distance train tickets

You can buy long-distance train tickets from VR Mobile, VR Online Shop, ticket offices, ticket machines, by phone from VR Customer Care, travel agencies and by making the reservation by phone and picking up the tickets at an R-kioski.

VR Mobile

VR Mobile sells most long-distance tickets (Advance, Basic and Flexible) and bicycle and pet tickets. You can also book seats when using a multi-ticket. Access VR Mobile at m.vr.fi. On VR Mobile you can purchase your tickets with the common credit/debit card payments, Visa Electron and Maestro card payments.

VR Online Shop

Choose a suitable connection from the Journey Search and proceed to purchase tickets. You can purchase the most common VR tickets with seat reservation in the Online Shop on all weekdays from 4.00 to 1.30.

In VR Online shop via web payment services or by using Visa, Visa Electron, Mastercard and American Express charge cards.

VR station booking offices

Train tickets are on sale at 36 railway stations in different parts of the country. To check the station with booking offices, their open hours and services go to the Station information pages.

Long-distance Train tickets purchased from station ticket offices on the departure date will cost one euro more, going forward, than tickets purchased from ticket offices in advance.

VR station booking offices accept cash payments, bank card payments, common Credit/Debit card payments, Visa Electron and Maestro card payments. Diners Club and Diners Club Discover cards are not accepted.

Ticket vending machines

In the vending machines, you may purchase long-distance and commuter train tickets, pay and collect train tickets, sleeping-berth tickets and car-carrier tickets ordered by telephone, and print train tickets purchased via Internet.

Ticket vending machines accept payments by common credit cards and American Express cards.

VR Customer Care

You can now buy tickets also by calling VR Customer Care, tel. 0600 41 900 (€1.99/answered call + local network charge). To buy tickets by phone you need a Credit/Debit card. The customer service agent will ask for your card details. The tickets will be sent too you by e-mail or to your mobile phone.

You can also book long-distance train tickets through VR Customer Care. Collect tickets from R-kiosks, ticket vending machines or VR station ticket offices.

R-kiosks

VR train long-distance train tickets may be paid and collected at an R-kiosk. The tickets are first to be booked at VR Customer Care, 0600 41 902 (price of call, €1.99 + local network charge), and then picked up at an R-kiosk by producing a booking number. No commission is charged for tickets picked up at an R-kiosk. Check the closest R-kiosk and opening hours on R-kiosk web site.

VR sales agents

VR long-distance train tickets are sold by travel agencies and other sales agents in different parts of the country. To check the sales point locations, please call VR Customer Care, 0600 41 902.

Train conductors

In long-distance trains you can buy tickets without a reserved seat. Tickets purchased onboard trains are €2 more expensive on trips up to 76 km and €5 more expensive on trips over 76 km than purchased from VR station booking office.
Ticket purchased onboard train costs the same than purchased from booking office if the long-distance departure station does not have a ticket office or ticket machine and Pendolino-, InterCity and Express trains stop at the station.

Hankasalmi, Haukivuori, Humppila, Isokyrö, Joutseno, Karkku, Kesälahti, Kokemäki, Kontiomäki, Laihia, Lapinlahti, Lievestuore, Misi, Muhos, Muurola, Paltamo, Pello, Ruukki, Simpele, Siuntio, Sukeva, Tervola, Tervajoki, Tornio-Itäinen, Turku satama, Utajärvi, Vaala, Ylistaro ja Ylitornio.

Note! Visa Electron, Diners Club, Diners Club Discover, Maestro and similar cards cannot be used to pay for tickets.
