VR zone area is divided into eight zones
When you travel on commuter trains outside HSL area (e.g. from Järvenpää to Riihimäki), out of HSL area (e.g. from Tikkurila to Hyvinkää) or from outside the area to HSL area (e.g. from Lahti to Pasila), you must purchase a VR zone ticket.VR's commuter services area is divided into eight zones, ranging from A to H. The tickets are priced depending on the number of travel zones.
Examples:
- It's a one zone (C) journey from Kirkkonummi to Kauklahti.
- A two zone (B+C) journey from Tikkurila to Järvenpää.
- A four zone (B+C+D+E) journey from Hiekkaharju to Hyvinkää.
- A four zone (C+D+E+F) journey from Mäntsälä to Riihimäki.
- A three zone (C+D+E) journey from Haarajoki to Hyvinkää.
- A three zone (B+C+D) journey from Haarajoki to Malmi.
Fares from 1 January
Commuter services fares are raised on 1 January by an average of 4.1%. The raise is due to increases in overall price levels. Check out the new fares on the most popular routes from the table.

Zone ticket discounts
The below discounts are granted on commuter services zone ticket fares. Read more on the discount terms on each ticket information page.- junior tickets, discount 50% for children aged 6-16
- student tickets, discount 50%
- tickets for persons over the age of 65 and pensioners under 65 discount 50%
- conscripts and persons in non-military service tickets, discount 50
Zone ticket validity
- The ticket is valid for the day of purchase and the following day.
- A single ticket is valid for 60-120 minutes from validation depending on the number of zones.
- Zone tickets are only valid in VR commuter and regional trains in VR commuter services area.
- Within HSL area you travel with HSL area tickets.
- For example an HSL ticket is needed when travelling from Pasila to Rekola, and from Tikkurila to Koivukylä a Vantaa city internal ticket is needed.
Should a journey be made in the zone region aboard an Express train, InterCity or InterCity2 or Pendolino train, a long-distance ticket is needed as corresponding to the train type used.
