VR has launched new ticket range and Online Shop

Travel on the environmentally friendly train at an even lower cost when you plan your journey well in advance. VR revised its train ticket range in autumn 2011. An even wider ticket range is available through VR Online Shop.

Ticket purchasing onboard trains

Prices and payment methods of tickets purchased onboard trains have changed from 1 March 2012:

An additional service charge for tickets purchased onboard trains is not collected if the long-distance departure station does not have a ticket office or ticket machine and Pendolino-, InterCity and Express trains stop at the station. Stations where tickets cannot be purchased are:

Hankasalmi, Haukivuori, Humppila, Isokyrö, Joutseno, Karkku, Kesälahti, Kokemäki, Kontiomäki, Laihia, Lapinlahti, Lievestuore, Misi, Muhos, Muurola, Paltamo, Pello, Ruukki, Simpele, Siuntio, Sukeva, Tervola, Tervajoki, Tornio-Itäinen, Turku satama, Utajärvi, Vaala, Ylistaro ja Ylitornio.

The additional service charge on long-distance trains grows progressively. On trips up to 75 km tickets purchased onboard trains cost €2 more than when purchased at the station and on trips over 75 km the additional charge is €5. The additional charge is not collected on direct Regional train connections. The change does not apply to long-distance international trains.

Visa Electron, Maestro and similar cards cannot be used to pay for tickets. Due to unpredictable telecommunications links cards cannot be used reliably onboard trains because these cards require verification of the transaction.
